While having an appropriate chair is important when sitting at a computer desk, properly configuring the chair that you have will go a long way toward increased comfort and ease. Sitting at the computer desk for long periods can increase muscle stress and put pressure on the spinal disks. The way you sit at your computer desk chair can make a big difference in combating this stress and strain to the body.
In choosing your desk, you would have to look at how you plan to use the desk. Ask yourself these questions: Would I be using this writing desk solely for writing? Do I intend to use this for other purposes, such as for storage? Do I want this desk to also be a piece of home decoration aside from writing purposes? If, for instance, your answer to the latter question is yes, you might opt for the roll-top desk which allows you to keep your work hidden while being aesthetically pleasant. You would also have to keep in mind the type of structure of your house. For example, if your house has dark wooden paneling, you might want to choose a type of wood with a shade that complements it.
Repetitious work done at a desk can be very fatiguing, both physically and mentally. It will also put a great deal of strain on your eyes. It is imperative to take breaks to allow your body and mind to rest and recover at least one time every hour. Try standing up from your desk to stretch and walk around for approximately 3 to 5 minutes at a time. You will be amazed at how refreshed you will feel when you sit back down at your desk to begin work again.
